Summer 7’s 2023. Adult Coed Field Hockey League Rules

General Info

Games will be played on Monday nights at 7 or 8 PM and sometimes 6 PM on Field 3 at DE Turf Sports Complex. The league will start in the first week of June and run till early or mid August. The address is 4000 Bay Rd, Milford DE 19963. If there is a game that is canceled due to a lightning storm, DFHA will reschedule games at 6 PM on another Monday and teams may have to play a double header game. This could result in back-to-back games for one day. If you hear a loud horn/siren from the central building this means everyone must step off the turf field. We will have to wait 30 minutes before we can be cleared to go back on the field due to unsafe weather conditions. Chris Phillips or the referees will facilitate when players can return to the field. If 75% or more of the game is complete and due to weather DE Turf stops all matches. This will finalize the game. If it is under 75% of the game is played when the game is canceled due to storms the game will be rescheduled and as a full match or modified as a shorter game. This will be determined by DFHA Directors. Please check DFHA’s Facebook page for weather updates. Also, DE Turf could move us to another field depending on events going on at the complex. The field will be split into half and two teams will go head to head on each side. There will be 4 teams playing on one field. DFHA provides 1 referee for each game. There is no referee fee because it is built into the team registration cost. As of now, all games are scheduled on field 3.

League Cost

The total cost for the league is $600 and the referee fees are incorporated into this cost. Free agent is $65 a player and sub spots, if available that week is $15 a game. For teams that pay the team registration fee ($600) are allotted 13 spot for there roster, any additional players can be added as a free agent fee of $65 over 13 players. Everyone is guaranteed 7 games. We are playing FIH current rules. The top 8 teams will advance into single-elimination playoffs. No one has to worry about paying to park. DE Turf, they only charge to park on the weekend events.

Jerseys, Socks and Equipment

The home team wears white socks and the away team wears any other color. All teams should have the same color shirt or jersey to match their teammates. You can use the online store if you would like to purchase jerseys through us. Also, the reversible orange and white DFHA jersey will be available online at later date. If you are interested in purchasing one or for a whole team. Please email us or reach out to Chris phillips to place an order. Cost is $42 and it comes with DFHA logo and number of your choice on both sides. Shin guard and mouth guards are not required but highly recommend. The home team will need to supply the game ball as well.

Game Duration

The games will be 50 minutes long and 25 minutes halves. During the summer, the temperatures can get very hot. If it gets over 85 degrees on the turf. Teams and refs can agree to move to 13 minute quarters (most games will be quarters for water brakes).

Points, Playoffs, and Championship

A win is 3 points, a tie is 1 point and a loss will result in 0 points for that game. If there are teams tied in points at the end of regular league play, we will go off of goal differential. In other words, goals scored minus goals allowed. If there is still a team tied in goal differential, then we will base off of the lowest number of goals allowed to advance or take the next highest position. If everything is tied up we will do a 3 person shoot-out from each team to determine the higher seed at the game of league play. Teams that finish in the top 8 standings on points will advance into playoffs. The referee will keep track of the scores and report them to Chris Phillips or another board member that is assigned to facilitate league games if Chris Phillips is not on duty that day. There is a trophy for the winning team that will be recycled every year. The team that wins the championship game will get a nameplate on the trophy for that year and they will keep up until the first play off game the next year. If the winning team is not returning next year. They will not be granted to keep the trophy or be required to return it by the beginning of the new fiscal season (Before June 1). The trophy should be returned to Abby or Chris Phillips.

Roster and General Requirements

You can have up to 16 people on your roster. All players must be 18 or older to participate unless they are 17 and turning 18 in this fiscal year. There are a total of 7 players on the field including the goalie per team. We allow up to 3 male players on the field at one time and goalies are gender-neutral. You will be able to add to your roster up till the last game of the season.  Every player has to fill out the online registration and waiver form before playing any games. Returning team will have a drop down so players can register under that team. New team registration please fill out appropriate for so we can add you to the registration list. Please us line that is provided here (https://form.jotform.com/200815289642054) or go to the join tab on the on the website above. In order to play in the playoffs for individuals, you need to play in one league game in the season to qualify. The only exception to this is if you have someone that is injured and is specified before the league starts. If a team has to forfeit, the team will take an automatic 10-0 loss and the other team will take a win on their record 10-0. Teams are allowed to add and drop players throughout the season, but I order to qualify to play in the play offs. A player must play one season game with the rostered player. If a team doesn’t have a goalie for a game. They are allowed to pick up a goalie from another team without any penalty. If one team is short on players, they can pick up another player from another team only at the discretion of the opposing teams authorization. There will be sub spots for players that didn’t signed up in early registration and want to play one or two times. We will send out a message to the team captains to see if they need an extra player for that week. Subs spots are not guaranteed but if they signed up as a free agent then we will find them a team. We live by a big rule here at DFHA, hockey is for everyone! This means if someone fills out as a registration free agent spot and we can’t find them a team to agree to pick them up. They will be automatically assigned to a team by the board of directors.

Community Standards and Conflict Resolutions

Delaware Field Hockey Association asks that you promote good sportsmanship for everyone on the field. We are striving to bring our local communities together while playing competitive field hockey and promoting equity and diversity for the game. Protesting a referee’s decision is prohibited. In order for us to grow as an organization and creating more opportunities, we need your help by promoting good sportsmanship to your team, other teams and especially referees.  Each team will dedicate one player as the captain, this person will be the only one allowed to communicate with DFHA Directors. We understand everyone wants to win but unsportsmanlike conduct is not tolerated by DFHA. Player misconduct cards will be assessed as the following: Players may be penalized for misconduct according to Section 14 of the FIH rules. As stated, any player receiving a Green card will be temporarily suspended for 2 minutes. Any player receiving a Yellow card will be temporarily suspended for a minimum of 5 minutes as determined by the umpire. That team will play down until the end of the suspension. Any player receiving a red card will be permanently suspended from the current match and must leave the field area. That team will play down until the end of the match. Any player receiving 3 yellow cards or 2 red cards will be disqualified from the league. Player and spectator misconduct will not be tolerated. DFHA directors reserve the right to remove a player or spectator from the event or to suspend a player or team from games as they see necessary.
